While the length of Hamlin’s new contract extension was not announced, JGR confirmed it is a multi-year agreement. Financial details were also not disclosed per Spectrum News.
The deal provides stability for both driver and team after uncertainty around Hamlin’s future. He can now focus on contending for an elusive first championship.
Hamlin and Gibbs Share Excitement
In a statement, team owner Joe Gibbs expressed how remarkable it is that Hamlin has spent nearly 20 seasons driving for JGR. He looks forward to that relationship continuing for years to come, according to JGR’s Twitter announcement.
Hamlin also shared his excitement on Gibbs’ “Actions Detrimental” podcast, saying, “This is the best place for me” and that the team feels like home after so many years together. Their long-running partnership has produced much success.
What This Means for JGR and 23XI Racing
Hamlin also co-owns 23XI Racing with Michael Jordan, which fields cars for Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. Per Motorsport, Hamlin confirmed his extension will not impact the technical alliance between JGR and 23XI.
Gibbs noted on the podcast that Hamlin’s return provides stability in planning JGR’s driver lineup for the years ahead. The team’s core is firming up with Martin Truex Jr. also re-signing recently.
Hamlin Focused on Championship Hunt
At 42 years old, Denny Hamlin remains in pursuit of his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. He believes Joe Gibbs Racing gives him the best opportunity to capture that elusive title.
Hamlin has already scored multiple wins in 2022 and qualified for the playoffs yet again. Now that his contract status is settled, he can devote full energy to contending for a championship this season and in the years to come with JGR.
