Eight Republicans voted against Kevin McCarthy, leading to his removal as the Speaker of the House.

The rebellion was led by Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.

The Republicans who voted against McCarthy were: Andy Biggs of Arizona, Ken Buck of Colorado, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Eli Crane of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Matt Rosendale of Montana.

This was a historic event as it marked the first time a Speaker of the House has been removed from office.

The vote against McCarthy was 216-2103.

The rebellion started over McCarthy’s concessions in a deal that avoided a government shutdown.

All 210 votes to keep McCarthy were cast by Republicans.

Four Democrats and three Republicans did not vote.

The House will now have to elect a new speaker.
